September 2011

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the new academic year at Mangotsfield School.  It has been a pleasure to once again welcome students and their parent/carers into Year 7.  We also welcome our new sixth form students.  I am pleased to report that all students have made a great return to school and the new students are already settling in well.

Exam Success

We offer congratulations to our students in Year 11 who achieved the best ever Mangotsfield results this year, continuing the improving trend of recent years....

Mrs McBride to run in the London Marathon

Mrs McBride (teacher of MFL) is currently busy training for the London Marathon. She is running for the charity Children with Cancer UK (formerly Children with Leukaemia UK). This charity funds life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancer as well as helping children who are suffering from cancer and supporting their families.

They recently helped to fund the new Safari Daycare ward at Great Ormond Street Hospital and have also helped to build a patient hotel where parents can stay if their child is in hospital.

European Cafe in aid of Action for Kids

European CafeOn December 9th Mrs Royall's Year 8 German group organised a European Cafe for staff during Lesson 2 and break time.

"After studying the topic of food for a few weeks now", said Mrs Royall, "the idea of a café gave the group something really exciting to focus on".

The group designed all their own invitations, posters and table decorations for the event and invited staff to enjoy some european snacks such as coffee, hot chocolate and croissants and pains au chocolat.

There was also a raffle. The event raised just over £40 for the charity "Action for Kids" and the money will go towards providing specialised trikes so that a few severely handicapped children can get around and enjoy their Christmas this year. A big thank you to all staff who supported this event.
