The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Each year about twenty Year 10 students apply to do their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award (DoE). The activities take place between January and July.

To achieve the award you have to:

• take part in a physical activity (e.g. climbing, football, rugby);
• learn a new skill (e.g. cooking, sports leadership);
• take part in an expedition and;
• perform a service to the community (e.g. work in a charity shop, helping in a primary school)

Camping

The expedition is a two day walk, of around 10km, with one night spent camping.  You carry all your food and equipment and plan your own route.

Group members develop their skills in map reading, navigation, motivation, teamworking and gain resilience and resourcefulness. 

Assessed Expedition

We organise practice walks after school, a practice weekend camping trip in May and the assessed expedition in early July.
