September 2011

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the new academic year at Mangotsfield School.  It has been a pleasure to once again welcome students and their parent/carers into Year 7.  We also welcome our new sixth form students.  I am pleased to report that all students have made a great return to school and the new students are already settling in well.

Exam Success

We offer congratulations to our students in Year 11 who achieved the best ever Mangotsfield results this year, continuing the improving trend of recent years....

Year 8 Winners of Faraday Challenge 2010

Faraday Challenge winners

A group of Year 8 students beat five other teams in this year’s Faraday Engineering Challenge recently when they designed a device that could be controlled remotely to perform basic operations.

Design and Make

The teams had to design and make the tool that would pick up and move a ball into a tray, but only by viewing the operation on a video monitor.

To make the test more difficult the teams had a limited amount of money to buy the materials to make the machine and they had to create a video to document their task.

Congratulations

There were three teams from Hanham High, a team from The Yate Academy, one from The Grange and our winning team from Mangotsfield.

Congratulations to all in the team for winning such a difficult challenge!
