Dear Parents/Carers
Future Funding of Schools
As a result of the financial implications of the “Schools White Paper”, school budgets for the next year could be adversely affected. One of these factors is the new “Pupil Premium”. This is funding to be re-distributed according to the number of children eligible for Free School Meals. The Pupil Premium will allow schools to plan interventions such as reduced class sizes.
Risk of reduced funding
As a school with only a small percentage of students receiving Free School Meals, we are at risk of reduced funding. We want to continue to provide your children with the best possible education and so I am seeking your help to ensure that both the school and your family receive all the funding entitlements.
Healthy diet
If you are eligible for Free School Meals, I urge you to apply. School lunches provide a healthy, nutritional and balanced hot or cold diet. You and your child still retain the choice of what to eat at lunchtime. Children who qualify for Free School meals are not treated any differently to other students accessing the school meals that we provide.
Criteria for Free School Meals
This additional government support is a means of ensuring that families on lower income have their children’s lunches paid for. To be eligible you need to show that you receive one of the following: Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, Child Tax Credit (annual income not exceeding £15,575), Support under part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, Guaranteed Element of Pension Credit, Employment Support Allowance.
How to apply for Free School Meals
To apply for Free School Meals you can request an application form from Reception, South Gloucestershire Council or download a version from our website. You will need to sign and return the completed application form along with proof of your current benefit(s) to South Gloucestershire Council.
Yours faithfully
