Letter from the Head
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to Mangotsfield School
Staff, students, parents and Governors are proud of the educational standards achieved and of the caring community created in recent years. In 2009, for the second year running, over 60% of Year 11 students achieved at least 5 A*-C passes and 48% obtained 5 A*-C including English and Maths. These results are a great credit to them, the support of their families and the work of Mangotsfield staff.
Post 16 Students
Post 16 students achieved well in a number of subjects. 77% of Year 12 students achieved A-E grades, with 21% obtaining A*-B grades. Year 13 students also achieved well, obtaining an 81% pass rate, with 29% at the higher grades (A*-B). Over 20 students have taken places on Higher Education courses.
Best Value Added
Y9 students have achieved results amongst the best Value Added in the county over the last few years. These achievements are a consequence of the support and challenge provided by school staff working in partnership with parents and students.
Celebrate Success
As a school we readily celebrate success, both academic and personal, thereby helping our students to develop self-confidence and self-esteem. We do all we can to ensure that each child’s learning progresses as rapidly as possible and we are proud of the level of support and guidance that we give. The school’s positive working ethos is reflected in our good standards of behaviour and high levels of attendance.
Innovative Approaches
We are continuing to develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning in cooperation with the other schools in the Kingswood Partnership, other Specialist Colleges, and our primary school partners. Mangotsfield gives every student the opportunity to participate in a wide range of challenging activities and they respond well to increased levels of responsibility that we give them, such as when serving on School Council, hosting and welcoming visitors, and participating in the selection of staff. Participation in sport, music, drama and other extra-curricular pursuits contributes greatly to the life of the school.
See Us At Work
We hope that this web site will be a useful introduction to the school and will help you to make the right choice of secondary school for your child. If you have any questions after browsing through it, please do not hesitate to ask or, better still, come and see us at work. My colleagues and I will be very pleased to welcome you.
Yours sincerely
Richard Badley
