Home Learning |
 |
One of our recent Personal Development Curriculum (PDC) themes focussed on being an effective Self Manager.
Completion of homework is one way to help our students manage their time and their work effectively. Home learning has a number of important purposes, for example: |
- developing independent learning skills, including planning time and work
- developing self‐discipline in work habits, including working to deadlines
- giving opportunities for research
- practising and consolidating the skills learned in a lesson
- completing and extending the learning happening in class
- allowing parents and carers to be involved in students’ learning
- reviewing, revising and preparing for examinations
- completing coursework
|
We want to work more closely with parents in partnership to ensure that homework is set and completed and that deadlines are met.
Homework Timetables
Your son or daughter will have received a homework timetable. They should have recorded the days on which homework is set in their planner – please ask them to show you!!
We are asking all students to put the subjects set into each day in the planner. |
|
Homework Booklets
A number of subjects will be providing students with homework booklets – deadlines for completion of each piece of work will be set. Sometimes these include extended pieces of work which may take more than one week and which need some time planning in order to meet the deadline.
|
|
Please ask students to show you the planner each week and sign the planner to show that you know that the homework is completed.
|
|
Presentation of Work |
|
We shall also be emphasising neat presentation and are asking students to follow the rules below when presenting homework, coursework and work done in class.
- Start each piece of work with a title
- Underline the title (with a ruler) so that it stands out
- Add the date in the margin
- Write in a blue or black pen
- Draw diagrams with a pencil, use a ruler where appropriate.
