Staff, students, parents and Governors are proud of the educational standards achieved and of the caring community created in recent years.  In 2009, for the second year running, over 60% of Year 11 students achieved at least 5 A*-C passes and 48% obtained 5 A*-C including English and Maths. Mangochef 2010

Mangochef

Ten students from Years 7 and 8 took part in this year’s Mangochef competition.  They had to make a starter and main course with points being awarded for taste, texture, aroma, appearance, complexity of dish and how well it was cooked. 

What makes a good chef?

  • Creativity and an eye for detail
  • A fast yet confident worker
  • Logical and a good timekeeper
  • Can take a high pressure environment
  • A resiliant person that can be flexible and make the most of a bad situation.

Top Six

The top six from the first round then went through to the dessert round which produced two winners  Tess Harper-Bill for Year 7 and Kezia Ames for Year 8. Congratulations to both of them.

Kezia Emes:

Starter - Scotch Bonnet and Feta Cheese Filo Parcels

Main Course - Deluxe Fish Pie

Dessert - Banoffee Pie

Tess Harper-Bill:

Starter - Devilled eggs

Main Course - Chile con carne with Rice

Dessert - All-butter shortbread with strawberries and whipped cream

The other contestants were Ben Goodman, Macauley Randall, Lois Dorrington and Lauren Johns (who all went through to the dessert round), Amy Calway, David Kiddle, Callum Wilson and Emily Cadden.

High Standard

Mrs Garner was very pleased with the competition: “The standard was very high this year, the judges were very impressed by the variety of the dishes cooked by the students”.  

The competition was judged by Mr Eadie, Mrs Knapp, Mr Clayton, Mrs Garner, Miss Phillips and Mrs Kinneir.  Thanks to the judges and well done to all the competitors.
