GCSE results 2017
Mangotsfield School students are celebrating their successes after another positive year for the school. The 2017 results build on the strong progress the school made in 2016. English and Maths results were in line with last year despite the lower prior attainment of the year group, with 63% of students attaining a 4 in English. and 64% in maths. I am particularly impressed by the number of very high grades in maths, with 7 Grade 9s. This is the new A**, designed to stretch and challenge the most able.
There were a number of strong individual performances:
Ceinwen Baker 7A* , 8 in Eng Lang, 9 in Eng Lit, 9 in maths
Holly Barker 4A*, 9 in Eng Lang, 8 in Eng Lit, 8 in maths, 3 As
Freya Sage 4A*, 3 As, 7 in Eng Lang, 8 in Eng Lit, 9 in maths
Adele Sandrone 4A*, 3As, 7s in Eng Lang and Eng Lit, 9 in maths
Aidan Lo 3A*. 7 in Eng Lang, 8 in Eng Lit, 9 in maths, 3 As
Hope Vardakis 1A*, 8 in Eng Lang, 7 in Eng Lit, 8 in maths, 3As, 4Bs
I am delighted that for two years running we have been able to post improving results. Together we are building a culture of belief and aspiration, where students are supported so expertly by our teachers to achieve their potential. Against a background of uncertainty with new examinations in English and Maths, students and staff have proven to be more than capable of meeting the high challenge they set themselves. I’m really proud of all of them, particularly because they have not had long to become accustomed to such a different style of exam.
