Partnership Through Action

Our PTA is an active and vibrant group of parents, carers, teachers who work together in support of the school.  Whilst many PTAs exist largely as fund-raising organisations we pride ourselves on having a wider remit and play an integral role in school life.

• We help to improve communication between parents and staff by providing opportunities for discussion, offering feedback and distributing information.
• We are often the first point of call for parents to ask questions and teachers regularly consult with us on new ideas and policies.
• We facilitate school events by providing refreshments and manpower.
• We operate a school uniform service.
• We organise fund-raising activities including car-boot sales, quiz nights and run “Casa Mango” which produces Mexican style food at local festivals.

Using the Funds We Raise

Our funds are used to help purchase equipment that cannot be provided for within the school's official budget. Sometimes we concentrate our efforts on a large item such as the new screen and digital projectors in the school hall but recently we have supported a number of smaller projects. Over the last year we have funded the following items:

• Two good quality school team rugby kits with logo
• Art materials to support the delivery of a KS3 art club
• Expedition Items in support of the introduction of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award
• Concorde Book Award texts for a pupil reading group (Yrs. 7&8)
• Kit Cars Sponsorship
• Netball team jackets
• School Awards/Prizes

New Members and New Ideas Welcome!

Dates for all our meetings can be found on the calendar sent home at the beginning of the year (available on the website here) All parents are invited to attend these but even if you can't make the meetings we are always looking for volunteers to help out at other times. Our meetings are very informal, our events good fun and both are a good way of getting to know other parents and teachers as well as raising funds. Please feel free to contact us via the School Office if you'd like to be involved or to know more.

Uniform

As many of you know the PTA plays an active role in the sale of school uniform - we take and pick orders as well as organising sale evenings largely aimed at new parents and students. The first uniform evening is on Tuesday 27th April 2010 when we will provide an opportunity for each primary school pupil with a place at Mangotsfield next September to both see and try on a wide range of items. As ever we are always looking for volunteers to help out - please contact the PTA via the School Office if you can help for all or part of the evening (between 6-8 pm). Remember sales like these help the PTA to raise funds for the benefit of all school pupils - our prices are very competitive and the quality second to none!

Quiz Evening - Friday 21st May 2010

Those of you who have attended one of our famous quiz evenings will be pleased to know that we have arranged another for Friday 21st May 2010 at 7:30pm (changed from Friday 14th May). Lloyd Pellow has very generously agreed to be our quizmaster again for another fun-packed evening designed to flex your mental agility....or otherwise! Teams of up to 6 people are invited to participate and as usual a pay bar and raffle will be provided. Full details will be sent home nearer the time.

Festivals

'Casa Mango', the PTA's Mexican-style food stall will be making not one but two appearances this summer. On Saturday 12th June

we will be at the Mangotsfield Festival where we will be one of the two main food outlets for the day and on 19th June we'll be at the Pucklechurch Revel. There are a number of ways you might be able to support us in these endeavours from food prep the day before, setting up in the morning or serving for an hour of the day. Or, of course, you could support us by coming to buy our food which we are reliably informed is excellent value for money!
