Supporting your child
The best things you can do to support your child:
- Take an interest in their school life. Just because they have left primary school does not mean that they do not need their parent’s support.
- Attend all parent’s evenings- these are crucial for understanding your child’s progress
- Ensure they attend over 96% - any absence above 4% will mean that a child’s grades will be reduced
- Provide a suitable place for your child to complete homework. Homework is crucial to ensure that students have all the content needed to take exams but are also essential for preparing them for the amount of revision they will need to complete each night (3 hours a day in year 11). All homework is set on Show My Homework, click here to be able to log on and see your child’s homework.
- Do not be afraid to contact school- keep school informed of anything that might affect your child eg a bereavement. Or if you notice a change in your child. Working together is always better when supporting your child.
- The school runs a number of support evenings through-out the year to talk about generic support.
- Yr 11 students will need more support near exam time please click the link to see specific advice on exam preparation and stress management.
If your questions are more of a specific nature than it is better to speak to your child’s mentor who can answer them or direct you to someone who can.
