September 2011

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the new academic year at Mangotsfield School.  It has been a pleasure to once again welcome students and their parent/carers into Year 7.  We also welcome our new sixth form students.  I am pleased to report that all students have made a great return to school and the new students are already settling in well.

Exam Success

We offer congratulations to our students in Year 11 who achieved the best ever Mangotsfield results this year, continuing the improving trend of recent years....

Strengthening Families Course

Parents and students have been invited to take part in a free parenting course designed to improve and strengthen family relationships.  The “evidence based” course is being provided by South Gloucestershire Parenting Consultancy Service but will be delivered by two members of staff from Mangotsfield School, Ms Jones and Ms Riches.

Positive Parenting Skills

“Parenting courses support parents to build positive relationships with their children, increase their self esteem and encourage better behaviour. The programmes cover a combination of positive parenting skills (such as using praise and rewards; playing with children and communicating effectively), and positive limit setting techniques (such as agreeing house rules and what to do when they are broken.) A range of methods are used to help people learn and develop new skills including group discussions, watching DVDs, role plays and practicing things at home. Programmes are run in a fun and friendly atmosphere and parents say that they enjoy meeting other parents with similar goals.”
