We Survived the Island! - July 2010

There was a lot of hype for the most recent TAG team event, Island Survivors.

It was strange, like a mysterious episode of Lost, as we were all mixed with new people from different schools. Downend, Hanham and The Grange were three of the schools thrown straight into the deep end by Simon and Maddie (the leaders), who mixed up all of the schools.

We were made to work in teams with people we barely knew. We built shelters, gave out jobs to people on the island and had group discussions and arguments.

Chatty Teacher

In a group we sorted out issues in the society that had been formed on the island, such as a wood-cutter who stole all the food, a fat, lazy policeman, a chatty teacher and a fire-maker who wanted more food and money.

Overall the day was brilliant and we made some great new friends. We do hope that Simon and Maddie do this again someday, it was really special.  We think it's safe to say that everyone enjoyed it.

Awesome

Our acting, team working and social skills have definitely been improved and we're raring to go for another awesome TAG day.

RAF Maths and Science Event - June 2010

Over 60 Year 9 students took part in these workshops held by trained RAF officers.

During the science event students took part in a fitness challenge and designed a balanced diet.  During the maths event they had to map read and solve puzzles. Students really enjoyed the day and made a lot of positive comments:

“It was great, I had lots of fun”, Zac Harvey-Knights

“I found out a lot of information”, Harley Dando

“It was a lot of fun and set my mind on fire”, Max Evans

The RAF TAG Team Event - June 2010

Dave, an RAF Flight Sergeant, ran a variety of team building exercises for the students in Years 7 and 8.

"We had to pass six different balls along an open-top pipe into a bucket at the other end. This challenge proved very difficult but in the end everyone finished."

"Another one of the challenges was when everyone had to stand on a small plank of wood. Dave then told us to line up in shoe size order but, there was a twist, we couldn't walk off the plank and we could not talk either so we had to use gestures to communicate!"

"Everyone had a great time so a big thanks to Dave and everyone who organised the event."
