Supporting Talented and Gifted Children
It is clear that some students excel in particular areas, learn faster than others or have high potential but are underachieving. Our Talentedand Gifted Programme has been developed to help identify these students and help them to achieve that potential both in and out of the classroom.
What does gifted and talented mean?
The Govenment describes 'Talented and Gifted' students as those “with an ability to develop to a level significantly ahead of their year group (or with the potential to develop those abilities)"

We have identified three types of TAG student at Mangotsfield School
- Talented learners are those who have practical skills in areas like sport, music, design or creative and performing arts and are nominated by their teaching staff. They will be in the top 10% for their subject.
- Able learners are those who have high academic achievements in theoretical subjects such as English, Science and Modern Foreign Languages. They will be in the top 10% for their subject.
- Gifted learners are those students who achieved in the top 5% of their year group in the CATS tests taken in Yr 6 and Yr 7.
We also aim to take into account skills like leadership, decision-making and organising when identifying and providing for gifted and talented children. |
