Dear Parents,

Welcome to Mangotsfield School. This is a particularly exciting time for us. Our designation as a Specialist College in Engineering and Science has led to a wide range of exciting opportunities both for our own staff and pupils and, as we continue to forge ever closer links with them, for the staff and pupils at our partner primary schools. In addition, expansion to eight forms of entry from September 2004 brought with it a £6.5 million building and refurbishment programme which is enabling us to create an exciting and innovative environment for our pupils.

Staff, pupils, parents and Governors are proud of the educational standards achieved and of the caring community created in recent years. As a school we readily celebrate success, both academic and personal, which helps pupils to develop self-esteem and self-confidence. The support and guidance available for our pupils is excellent, and contributes very significantly to the progress they make. We do all we can to encourage positive attitudes and regular attendance in order to create a good working ethos. Consequently behaviour and attendance overall is good throughout the school.

Our extra-curricular provision continues to develop, and very many pupils participate in sport, music and drama outside of normal lesson time, thus contributing greatly to the life of the school. Older pupils respond well to the increased level of responsibility that we give them and our prefects in Year 11 perform an invaluable role in maintaining a calm and orderly atmosphere.

We hope that this web site will be a useful introduction to the school and will help you to make the right choice of secondary school for your child. If you have any questions after browsing through it, please do not hesitate to ask or, better still, come and see us at work. My colleagues and I will be very pleased to welcome you.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Badley
