Cashless catering and online payments
The Dining Hall runs a completely cashless system.
Parents can add money to a student’s account by making a payment online. If you wish to set up online payments but do not have an online link code, please contact the Finance Office to request one.
(Tel: 01454 862738 or Email: man-finance@cset.co.uk )
Students then redeem the cash against their fingerprint in the dining hall. This does away with students having to bring money to school and gives parents peace of mind that the money is being spent on good wholesome meals.
In order to complete this system we need to record students finger prints. The fingerprint images cannot be used by any other source for identification purposes. The system uses an image of the finger to create a mathematical algorithm and then discards the finger image; only the numbers remain and these cannot be reinterpreted back into a finger image
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you need to take my child’s finger image?
By taking an image of your child’s finger we can turn this information into a digital signature.
Can finger images be used by any other agency?
No, the software we use turns your child’s finger image in to a mathematical algorithm. The image of the finger is then discarded. The information that is stored cannot be used to recreate an image of the child’s finger.
What happens when my child leaves the School?
When a student leaves school all data can be deleted very easily.
How does it work?
When the child places his/her finger on the scanner, the software matches their finger image with the unique digital signature held in the database.
How will my child’s fingerprint be collected?
Every child will be asked to go to the dining hall, they will then put a finger into the machine pictured above and that will be recorded against the child’s name on SIMS.
Will my child still be able to pay with cash in the canteen?
No, we are CASHLESS only.
What happens if my child runs out of money on their account?
They will still be able to claim food on that day. You will receive a text to ask you to top up their account for the next day, otherwise they will not be able to claim food.
What if my child claims Free School Meal?
This is much better for FSM students as they will just put their finger in the machine, like all other students. The difference is that money will be put onto their account automatically.
